The outcome of visits with Santa has been hard to predict. We went for the first time when E was just 6 months old, and she was too little to be afraid of the jolly man in red. The next year at 1.5, Santa may as well have been Satan. I paid for the photo, but I’m not sure why. She’s sliding mistrustfully off of Santa’s lap while giving him the baby stink eye. Yeah, it went so smoothly that we didn’t even bother with Santa last year.
This year, I really wasn’t sure to expect. Eva is a much more even-tempered human than she has been, but you just never know. The morning of our planned Santa visit, when asked if she would be sitting on Santa’s lap, her response was “Hmm…I don’t think so.” BUT, when we actually got to the red velvet rope, indicating that we were next in line to see the big guy, Eva’s feelings about Santa did a 180. She actually ran up and hugged him. Then they had a nice chat about what she wanted for christmas, and she came away with a candy cane (mega-score).
Eva is now at that perfect age where she’s old enough to be really interested in Santa and other holiday activities, yet young enough to be absolutely enchanted by these experiences. I wouldn’t trade this time for anything. Did your little one(s) go through a faze where they were leery of Santa?
