So, it’s officialish! My husband and I are beginning to seriously consider the prospect of homeownership. Of course, it’s a decision that requires a lot of thought, research, and soul searching. We’ve been living together for the better part of a decade, and for the most part we’ve moved every single year! The thought of putting down roots and committing to a neighborhood (and school district) feels really really monumental. Let’s set property taxes and mortgage rates aside for just a second, and just think about aesthetics!

As I sit in the living room of my Northern Liberties row house with my shabby fiddle leaf fig, natural light is super high on my list of priorities for this home of the future. I think the whole family and our house plants and I are all in agreement on this one. I’m sure we’ll have to make some sacrifices when it comes to choosing this home, but let there be light! Almost nothing trumps the value of natural light for me. I seem to be most drawn to spaced with great light, white or very light walls, and exciting surprises of color. What do you love about your current home? What do you dream about in your house of the future?

I'm with you on this one! When my husband and I bought our home, it was important to find one with lots of open space and natural light. It's a dream come true to own something that is ours and a place our little one can call home, now the exciting part shall begin, the decorating! BTW, just found your little corner of the web and I love it. :)

Natural light is a must! If the space is too dark, I feel really claustrophobic. Good luck on your house search!

so funny! i saw your comment on ohjoy today and laughed. light is huge for me too, i just moved to northern liberties/philadelphia in general this past summer with my husband so this is our first winter. it's so much more grey and gloomy here than providence! i'm pretty surprised about it. all i can do when i turn on the light in the kitchen at noon to make lunch is day dream about living somewhere with windows on four sides someday so hopefully it'll be brighter. and you're so right about the house plants, mine have had it with this winter. at least it's almost spring :)

Well, welcome to the neighborhood, Laura! Yeah, Philly in the wintertime is pretty brutal. It's also pretty much the only time of the year that we have wind too. The crummy winters make me appreciate every other season all the more! Spring is coming soon, I promise! Our neighborhood really comes alive toward the end of March.
