I have seen so many blog posts this week about summer coming to an end. Seriously people, we’ve got AT LEAST a month of lovely summer left, I hope your weekend is filled with lovely summer outdoor activities! In the words of Feist, may summer go on and on!
So, I’m a little embarrassed to admit just exactly how much of an expert I am in this area. With a young child, a lack of free time, and still a strong desire to dress fashionably, flash sales have become my primary shopping outlet.
Flash sales are great because you can find quality items from your favorite designers at a great price. The disadvantages are that you’re in competition for a small quantity of each item which can lead to impulse buys, and sometimes the items aren’t returnable. I’ve rated all the flash sales I’ve personally used, just for you (in no particular order). Happy shopping!
I wouldn’t recommend totsy. They have a mediocre selection of items, only for children it seems, that is not especially high end. I also found that their shipping took the longest of any of the flash sales I’ve used, close to 8 weeks!
Really great details on a huge selection of merchandise, at a variety of price points. I would say that generally, the brands at ideeli aren’t as exclusive as some of their competitors, but you really can’t beat their prices. Shipping typically takes 1-2 weeks.
On par with the selection and quality of ideeli. They often have more luxury brands for kids, I’ve purchased tea collection items for my daughter several times using hautelook. Their shipping often takes upwards of two weeks, and once you put an item in your shopping cart, you only get 10 minutes to complete the purchase.
Gilt has a really lovely selection of super high-end clothing, as well as companion sites like jetsetter and gilt home. All are fantastically high quality, so the price point tends to be significantly higher than sites like hautelook or ideeli. The one drawback is sometimes items aren’t returnable, I’ve accidentally purchased an item that wasn’t elligible for return in the past. Customer service is excellent.
By far my favorite flash sales. Not only do they sell really high end products, similar to what’s available at GILT, shipping is FREE! Which is fantastic, considering the whole reason to use a flash sale is to save money, amiright? Another thing that that I really appreciate about MyHabit is they have a great selection of plus size clothing and education children’s toys.
a few others I haven’t tried yet:
You need an invitation to join, but they have a lot of beautiful items in their daily e-mail. They seem to features a lot of accessories and art. It’s what I image etsy would do if they got into the flash sale market.
A huge variety of art, home, kids, fashion, pets. All of the products are really modern and well curated.
This is a specialty flash sale site specifically focused on wedding apparel and accessories. I watched this site the whole time I was planning my wedding, and never really saw anything I wanted to purchase.
Joss & Main
A flash sale specializing in home goods, slightly conservative for my taste.
Happy Friday! I thought I’d leave you with this earthy, olympic gold inspired palette. I love how (at least for a few weeks) entire countries unite to celebrate athleticism and the incredible human body.

Hello Lovely Readers! Today I want to share with you a super easy recipe for low maintenance window boxes, that will look great Spring to Fall! I definitely do not have a green thumb, so if I can do it, you surely can to. I’m really pleased with how these turned out this year. Half of the plants actually survived the (albeit mild) winter, and were blooming like crazy by April!
1. Creeping Jenny
2. Red Caladium
3. Green Caladium
4. Purple Shamrock
Really, the only secret to my success was choosing hearty and easy to grow plants that don’t require a ton of light. I really like that our boxes are free of florals. I think it gives them a really unique look in a neighborhood of window box glory!
The only other trick is water, water, water! I use the dehumidifier water from our basement to give these guys a daily morning drink. Happy gardening!
